Many owners think so, noting that sometimes their dogs anticipate a request or event before it happens. But what’s really happening is that the dogs are reading your eyes, which frequently project intent prior to speech.
Last week we posted about a money-sniffing dog. This week a drug-sniffing dog named Franky steals the spotlight. His nose picked up the scent of marijuana inside a private residence and the home owners are claiming the sniff was an invasion of privacy. The legal case started in Florida but is now making it’s way to the Supreme Court. Justice may be blind, but Franky certainly hope she shares his good sense of smell.
The U.K. has a pack of currency-sniffing dogs who picked up on the scent of £9.9 million (that’s USD $15.2 million!) this past year. The money they’re nosing out is generally related to crime, but we can all wish we could train our dogs to find that $20 we misplaced!
Yes, and so can all the other dog breeds too. But just like you, your dog can get a flu shot to stave off the stuffy nose, raspy cough and fever. It’s an especially good idea if your dog spends time in a doggie daycare or is booked for an upcoming kennel stay.
