Buddy’s been eagerly awaiting this biography of Rin Tin Tin, the famed German Shepherd who starred in radio plays and movies during the 1920s and ’30s. He was so popular that when he passed away in 1932, TV broadcasts were interrupted with the sad news. The book comes from Susan Orlean, New Yorker magazine writer and bestselling author of The Orchid Thief, and is in stores today. Be sure to get your paws on it.

The sixth annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon took place this past weekend. The competition raised more than $100,000 for the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Our Buddy was glad to see that a dog named Buddy took top honors.

Well, pure bred, actually. Berry, the black German Shepherd who played Padfoot in the Harry Potter films is up for adoption. His stuntman owner is on the road so much that he feels his four-legged companion is getting lonely.

New York City’s famed Central Park is having a fair this weekend dedicated to New York’s bark-set. The My Dog Loves Central Park Country Fair kicksoff on Saturday, September 24th at 11 am and will feature dog competitions to determine Biggest Lap Dog and Best Kisser among other light-hearted themes. Last year 8,000 canines and their human pals participated in the fun.

It’s not uncommon for humans to experience a jump in blood pressure upon entering a medical facility and facing a doctor. This so-called “white-coat effect” has now been observed in greyhounds too. Perhaps doctors and vets should consider medical coats of another color.

It’s Fashion Week in New York City, which inspired Buddy to look at fashionable footwear for pet owners. He spotted this pair online, and while they are inspired by cats, he thinks they are also ideal for owners of dogs that might need a little extra incentive to, well, heel more readily while out ona walk. Hopefully nipping won’t ensue! Designer Kobi Levy also has a pair of hound heels too for those who want to feel like they’re walking dogs all the time!
