An Orca’s Best Friend

Meet Tucker, a dog trained to sniff out pods of Orca in the ocean to help scientists study their health. His incredible nose makes tracking the animals and evaluating stresses on their habitat easier for researchers.

Dog Years

Popular belief has it that every dog year equals 7 human ones, but leave it to the wise Heloise to correct the equation. Check out her more accurate formula at the link below, and, depending on your new calculation of your own dog’s age, get ready to throw a sweet sixteen for your 1.5 year old puppy or a retirement party for your 13 year-old pal. No matter what the age, remember to keep your dog’s joints in youthful shape with diet, exercise and a pressure-point relieving bed.

A New Breed of Reality Show

Tonight is the premiere of Dogs In The City, a reality show focused on urban hounds in need of a little behavioral therapy. The show host is a comedian as well as a dog coach, so expect less whispering and more wise-cracking than a typical dog TV show. All of us at Microdry will be settling into our couches and dog beds to check it out.

Buddy at the Beach

Like almost everyone else in the New York area this past Memorial Day weekend, Microdry Pet’s top dog Buddy got packing for the shore. In addition to his Memory Foam HD™ Pet Mat, Buddy always packs his Memory Foam HD™ Lounge Pillow. Yes, it’s designed for humans, but clearly it’s just as comfortable for canines!

Couch Surfing for Canines

Give your dog a vacation while you’re on vacation with DogVacay.com, a new site that matches up pups with people in your area who are willing and able to host them in their homes while you’re on the road. It’s a great alternative to kennels and a fun way to meet fellow dog-o-philes in your neck of the woods.

Thinking Like A Dog

Dogs can be trained to jump through hoops and even parachute out of airplanes. But it wasn’t until recently that a scientist thought to train them to sit still in an fMRI scanner. For the first time, two researchers have captured the activity of a dog’s brain without sedation. The findings–based on communicating with the dogs via hand signals—revealed that dogs have active minds and shrewd social cognition.

A fun quote about the nature of dogs that syncs up well with our economic times too. If only dogs paid! This quip comes from a Philadelphia journalist, ad man and humorist who, according to one bio, wrote more than 35,000 paragraphs, epigrams, anecdotes, gag lines and definitions over the course of his career during the 20th century.

Cat Attack!

Seems cats are loving Microdry dog beds as much as dogs and taking over whenever opportunity arises. While this makes the humans at Microdry happy, our four-legged co-workers have mixed felines, er-ah, feelings. Afterall, cats get all the other furniture in a home to sit on. But the fact that many cats choose our gear over the couch is a big vote of confidence for the superior comfort we deliver!

Tale of a Tail

A nice Monday read—a reflection on how an owner communicates with his dog, trading words for wags.
